Sealdah Station Pays Tribute to Partition Victims with Memorial Pujan
A long time ago, India was divided into two countries, and this is called Partition.
Many people had to leave their homes and lost almost everything.
A large number of them came to a big train station in Kolkata called Sealdah Station.
It became one of the main places where refugees from East Pakistan arrived.
Now, the government wants to remember those people and their pain.
On the day before Independence Day, a special ceremony called a Bhumi Pujan was held at the station.
A statue will be built there to remind visitors about what happened.
The statue should be ready in about two months.
There was also an exhibition showing how families suffered and how some rebuilt their lives.

The Union Ministry of Culture organised a Bhumi Pujan at Kolkata's Sealdah Station on Friday, the day before Independence Day, now observed as Partition Remembrance Day.
A memorial statue for the millions of people who suffered during Partition will be set up at the station and is expected to be completed in two months.
Sealdah Station was one of the major points of arrival for refugees from East Pakistan, witnessing the struggles of countless displaced families.
State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said the statue will remind visitors of the horrors of Partition and accused previous governments of trying to make people forget.
The Sealdah Division also organised an exhibition for Partition Horrors Remembrance Day highlighting the suffering of displaced families and their rebuilding of lives.
