Maharashtra Governor Demands Guru Tegh Bahadur Chair in Universities
Some important people in India held a special meeting to remember a very brave man named Guru Tegh Bahadur, who lived more than 350 years ago.
He is famous for standing up for the right of every person to follow their own religion without fear.
The governor of Maharashtra said the Guru was like a lighthouse, guiding people toward freedom, kindness, and peace.
He asked universities in the state to create a special study program, called a chair, named after the Guru.
That way, students can keep learning about the Guru's message of courage and caring.
The meeting happened in a city called Navi Mumbai and was organized with help from the government and cultural groups.
The culture minister said India is hosting many events this year in the Guru's honor.
Everyone agreed that the Guru's teachings can help people feel strong and kind even today.
Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated a one-day national seminar on 'The Legacy of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji' in Navi Mumbai.
The governor demanded a dedicated 'Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur' chair in at least one of the 65 public and private universities in the state.
The seminar commemorated the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, who laid down his life in 1675 as 'Hind Di Chadar'.
The event was jointly organised by the Union Ministry of Culture, Sahitya Akademi, and the Punjabi Cultural and Welfare Association.
Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said nationwide events are being held under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership to inspire future generations.
