Heavy rain hits Delhi; IMD warns of more showers Saturday
It rained a lot in Delhi, a big city in India.
The rain was so heavy that streets and low-lying areas filled up with water.
In some places, the water was as deep as a person's waist.
Cars and buses had trouble driving, and people's daily routines were disrupted.
Weather experts at the IMD called this a "red alert," meaning the rain was very serious.
They said more rain is coming on Saturday, so they changed the warning to an "orange alert."
The cause is a "low-pressure area," a weather pattern that brings lots of clouds and rain.
Heavy rain is also expected in many other parts of India over the next few days.
Experts warned that the rain could cause flooding in some areas like Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Heavy rainfall on Friday caused severe waterlogging in Delhi, including waist-deep water in Valmiki Basti in Fatehpur Beri village, and disrupted traffic and normal life.
The IMD issued a red alert for Delhi in the morning and an orange alert for Saturday, August 8, with more rain forecast for Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The heavy rainfall was driven by a low-pressure system over southwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring areas, which is likely to continue affecting the region.
Sector 17 in Faridabad recorded the highest rainfall in the NCR region at 119.4 mm between midnight and 5 pm, with several weather stations recording more than 100 mm.
The IMD warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across eastern, north-western and southern India over the next two to three days, including a low to moderate flash flood risk for Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand.
