Two Odisha Teens Held Over Fatal Matchstick Dispute
Police in Odisha detained two 17-year-old boys after an 18-year-old man died following an alleged assault.
The incident reportedly began when Ayushman Tripathy asked the boys for matchsticks to light a cigarette.
Police said the boys refused, and an argument followed.
The argument allegedly became a physical attack.
Tripathy was punched and kicked and later collapsed.
Police found him unconscious on the road and took him to a hospital.
He died there on the night of September 19.
One boy was taken into custody on September 17, while the other was held on September 21.
The second boy was then brought before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Two 17-year-old boys were detained in Odisha’s Ganjam district over the alleged killing of 18-year-old Ayushman Tripathy.
Police said Tripathy was assaulted on September 14 after asking the teenagers for matches to light a cigarette.
The teenagers allegedly punched and kicked Tripathy, who later collapsed and was found unconscious by patrolling police.
Tripathy died from his injuries at MKCG Medical College and Hospital on the night of September 19.
One juvenile was apprehended on September 17 and the other was held on September 21 before being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
