27 Check Dams Announced To Store River Water
Minister N. Anand announced several projects to manage water better.
Twenty-seven check dams will be built across rivers in 13 districts.
These dams will store water and help raise underground water levels.
Other structures will move river water into lakes and canals.
Two bed dams will be built across the Vaigai River.
Walls will be built near the Adyar and along the Bay of Bengal to reduce flooding and sea erosion.
The government also plans to repair irrigation systems, sluice gates and dams.
These projects are intended to help protect water resources and provide water to farmland.
Water Resources Minister N. Anand announced 27 check dams in 13 districts at an estimated cost of Rs. 206 crore.
A Rs. 25-crore wall will be built along the Adyar near Jafferkhanpet bridge to help mitigate floods.
Anicut systems, bed dams, distribution dams and water regulators will divert and control river water.
A five-kilometre wall from Nedugai to Nettukuppam will be built to prevent sea erosion.
The government allocated Rs. 695 crore to renovate irrigation structures, including sluice gates and dams.
