Uttar Pradesh is putting solar panels on many household rooftops through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Solar panels use sunlight to make electricity for homes.

So far, panels have been installed on more than 8.24 lakh homes.

Together, they can produce nearly 1.25 crore units of electricity every day.

This may help families reduce or even eliminate some electricity bills.

In June 2026, more than 1.25 lakh consumers had zero or negative bills.

The government has provided large Central and state subsidies to help people install the panels.

The project may also reduce pollution and create jobs for people working with solar equipment.

People must apply and complete the installation process by March 31, 2027, to receive the scheme’s benefits.
