Amit Shah to introduce bill renaming Kerala to Keralam

Kerala is a state in India where most people speak a language called Malayalam.

In Malayalam, the state is called 'Keralam,' not 'Kerala.'

Many Malayalam-speaking people wanted the whole country to use that name.

The state's lawmakers agreed and voted for the change in June 2024.

India's national leaders also said yes in March.

Now a special bill, called the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, will be discussed in Parliament.

If Parliament votes for it, the official name will become 'Keralam.'

Changing a state's name is not easy—it needs approval from the President and Parliament.

This shows how people sometimes want official names to match their own language and history.
