Electrocution Deaths Raise Safety Concerns Over Kawal Tiger Translocation

Some farmers put up electric wires around their fields to scare away wild boars.

These wires are illegal and can kill people or animals.

Two people recently died after touching such wires near the Kawal Tiger Reserve.

A tiger had also died from electrocution in the area before.

Officials want to move some tigers from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to Kawal.

But the wires could make the new tigers unsafe.

Kawal has not had a resident tiger since it became a reserve in 2012.

Officials say tigers that enter Kawal have returned to Maharashtra.

These deaths have made tiger safety an important concern before the relocation happens.
