Ahmedabad Child Eats After Rare Esophagus Surgery Success
A little boy named Mantavya was born without a working food pipe, so he couldn't eat from his mouth.
Doctors at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital did a special surgery that used his stomach to make a new food pipe.
After the operation, he could eat normally and was sent home healthy.
The hospital did this for free, and it has helped many children like him.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Mantavya, born without a functional oesophagus, now eats by mouth after surgery.
The gastric pull-up operation was performed on July 3, 2024 at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
The surgery was led by Rakesh Joshi with a team including Jayashree Ramji and anaesthesiologists Aditi and Sonal Bhalavat.
Mantavya was discharged 23 days after the operation, showing no complications.
The hospital offers this expensive procedure free of cost and has completed seven similar cases in the past year.
