Uttarakhand Monsoon: Gangotri, Yamunotri Highways Blocked as Ganga Rises

Every year, heavy rains called the monsoon come to India.

This year, the rain has been falling a lot in the northern part of the country.

Because of the rain, some roads in a state called Uttarakhand got blocked.

Big stones and mud, called debris, slid onto the roads.

Two important roads that lead to holy places called Gangotri and Yamunotri were blocked.

Workers are clearing the roads so people can travel again.

The roads to two other holy places, Badrinath and Kedarnath, are still open.

People can drive on those roads normally.

In a city called Rishikesh, the big river Ganga rose very high, past a warning mark.

The state government is watching the weather and giving updates.
