IIEST Shibpur to inaugurate 1,160-capacity hostel on August 16
At a big school called IIEST Shibpur, many students wanted to live on campus, but there were not enough rooms.
So the school is building a huge new dormitory for boys that can hold 1,160 students.
It will open on August 16.
After it opens, 75 out of every 100 students will be able to live at school, instead of only 55.
The school has about 4,200 students in total.
Some students had to live in rented rooms nearby because there wasn't enough space.
The school also wants to build a dormitory for 500 girls and is asking the government for money to do that.
A new building for classes is being made too.
The school hopes these new buildings will help more smart students choose to come and study there.
IIEST Shibpur will inaugurate a new boys' hostel with capacity for 1,160 students on August 16.
The hostel will raise the share of IIEST students living in hostels from 55% to 75%.
The institute has 4,200 students and 17 campus hostels on its 170-year-old campus.
The Centre provided ₹115 crore for the hostel; a girls' hostel for 500 students is also planned.
Suvendu Adhikari has been invited to inaugurate the hostel, and an academic complex will open within a month.
