New Mangalore Port handles maiden steel grade pig iron cargo

A port is a place where big ships come to load and unload things.

A port in India called New Mangalore Port did something new for the very first time.

It loaded a special kind of iron called steel grade pig iron onto a ship.

Pig iron is a material used to make steel, which is used to build many things.

The iron was made by a company called Kirloskar Ferrous Industries.

The ship carried 31,500 tonnes of the iron all the way to a country in Africa called Kenya.

A company called Stemcor bought the iron.

This was the first time this port handled this type of cargo.

The port also said it moved more cargo than in the same period last year.

That is good for trade between India and other countries.
