Indian Auto Sales Surge as Major Carmakers Post Growth
Many vehicle companies in India sold more products in August 2026 than in August 2025.
Maruti Suzuki sold more cars overall, especially utility vehicles and compact cars, but its exports fell.
Tata Motors sold many more passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and electric vehicles.
Mahindra & Mahindra also saw strong demand for utility vehicles, while its tractor sales grew more slowly.
Bajaj Auto grew strongly, helped by exports and commercial vehicles.
TVS Motor Company, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Hero MotoCorp and Royal Enfield also reported higher sales.
Companies linked some of the growth to strong demand, improved rainfall, infrastructure spending and the approaching festive season.
Hyundai said its exports were hurt by logistical problems connected to the conflict in West Asia.

Tata Motors’ passenger-vehicle sales increased 56% to 67,753 units, while electric-vehicle sales rose 94%.

Bajaj Auto’s total sales climbed 28% to 535,764 units, with exports providing a major contribution.
