Mumbai Metro Line 7A Viaduct Faces Possible Reconstruction
Mumbai Metro Line 7A is being built to connect Andheri East with Mumbai’s airport.
Part of the line runs above the ground in Vile Parle East.
Engineers discovered that the equipment needed to power the trains requires more height than earlier approvals allowed.
The equipment needs about 2.5 extra metres.
This problem was found in 2025, after much of the construction was already finished.
Work on the affected section has been stopped while officials seek new approval.
They are trying to fix the problem without rebuilding the structure.
If that is not possible, a large part of the viaduct may have to be rebuilt and the line could open later.

The affected area includes about 1 kilometre of viaduct, a ramp and Airport Colony station.
The elevated viaduct was reported 100% complete and the ramp about 95% complete by February 2026.
MMRDA, Systra and AAI are seeking a technical solution; otherwise, work worth about Rs 250 crore could be at risk.
