How Business Today Ranked India’s Top Manufacturing States
Business Today wanted to compare how well different Indian states perform in manufacturing.
It used seven measures, such as the number of factories, investment, exports, workers, and available electricity.
Each state was first ranked using its latest available data.
States were also ranked by how much they grew over the past 10 years and five years.
Export growth was measured over seven years because older comparable data was limited.
These three kinds of scores were combined for each measure.
The scores for all seven measures were then added together.
The states with the highest final scores were named India’s top 10 manufacturing states.
Business Today created a blended scorecard to identify India’s top-performing manufacturing states.
The scorecard measured factories, invested capital, manufacturing GSVA, construction GSVA, exports, workers, and power availability.
All 33 included states and Union territories were ranked using their latest available absolute values for each indicator.
States were also assessed on 10-year and five-year growth, with exports measured over seven years from FY18 to FY25.
Scores across the seven parameters were combined to produce an overall ranking of the top 10 manufacturing states.
