People in India who sell vehicles had their best month of July ever.

They sold more than 2.5 million vehicles in just one month.

That is almost 26 percent more than they sold in July last year.

Bikes and scooters sold the most, crossing a big record number for July for the first time.

Cars also crossed a large milestone for that month.

Trucks, three-wheelers and tractors all sold very well too.

More than half of the three-wheelers sold used electric power.

Electric vehicles overall sold more in one month than ever before in India.

People in villages and small towns are buying more vehicles than before.

Dealers expect the next few months to be strong, but they also say everyone should watch the sales numbers carefully.

Quotes

Sai Giridhar

Vice President, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA)

“"That a seasonally soft, erratic monsoon July ranks as the 12th‑highest retail month of the 151 months since January 2014 — a list otherwise dominated by festive months — speaks to the structural depth of the India growth story."”
