Vasai Bypass rail project faces delay as land survey pending
In India, there is a plan to build a new train track near Vasai in Maharashtra.
The track would be about 5.73 kilometers long.
It would connect two big train networks, the Western Railway and the Konkan Railway, so trains from Mumbai can reach the Konkan area without turning around.
The project is expected to cost about 176 crore rupees, which is a very large amount of money.
Before the government can buy the land for the track, workers must do a special survey called the Joint Measurement Survey.
This survey carefully measures the land and finds out who owns it.
The survey has not been done yet, so the project is stuck.
Some paperwork is already finished, and work on environmental checks is moving ahead, including getting permission to use some mangrove land.

The Railway Board sanctioned the Detailed Project Report in July 2023, and a consultancy contract was awarded a year later in 2024.
Environmental work is progressing, including a proposal to divert 14.10 hectares of mangrove land, with 9.6 hectares for the bypass and 4.6 hectares for stabling lines under MUTP 3A.
