A pickup truck carrying farm workers crashed into a larger dumper truck in Madhya Pradesh.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m.

near Chhimka village.

The workers were going home to Uttar Pradesh after planting rice in Gwalior.

Police said the pickup driver may have swerved to avoid cattle on the road.

Eight workers died, including five at the scene and three while being taken to a hospital.

Thirty-two other workers were hurt.

Police and local residents rescued people trapped in the damaged pickup.

The injured were taken to a hospital in Gohad, and the most seriously injured were sent to Gwalior.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister offered financial help to the families of the workers who died.
