Thane Rural Police Officer Suspected in ₹61.50 Lakh Highway Robbery
A van carrying money was traveling toward Mumbai when people allegedly stopped it near Khardi.
The suspects reportedly said they were Crime Branch officers.
They allegedly took the van’s keys and hurt the two people inside.
The suspects then allegedly removed ₹61.50 lakh from the van.
The van had been carrying about ₹1 crore in total.
Police have arrested five people so far.
Investigators believe a Thane Rural Police Assistant Sub-Inspector may have been involved.
Police think seven or eight people may have taken part.
The stolen money has not yet been recovered, and more arrests may follow.
₹61.50 lakh was allegedly stolen from an Angadia cash van near Khardi on August 24.
The van was carrying approximately ₹1 crore from Gwalior to the company’s Malad office in Mumbai.
Three suspects allegedly posed as Crime Branch officers, seized the van and assaulted its two occupants.
Five people have been arrested, while police suspect seven to eight people were involved overall.
Investigators reportedly established the involvement of a Thane Rural Police ASI and are searching for more suspects and the stolen cash.
