A 17-year-old student in Thane died by suicide after he could not get into the institute he wanted.

He had scored 95.7% in his Class 12 science exams.

He wanted to study a BS-MS dual degree at IIEST Shibpur in Kolkata.

Police said he ranked 10,474 in the institute’s aptitude test but did not receive a seat.

On September 4, he told his family he was going cycling.

Later, he sent a WhatsApp message saying he intended to end his life.

His family and police searched for him and found him badly injured near his apartment.

Doctors at Thane Civil Hospital declared him dead on arrival.

Police registered an accidental death report, and his family reportedly suspected no foul play.
