Andhra Pradesh Signs MoU for Large-Scale Electric Cooking
Andhra Pradesh is starting a project to cook food using electricity instead of LPG gas.
The project will be built at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur.
Its Hampi Hostel kitchen prepares food for about 2,000 students each day.
The government has approved Rs 81.80 lakh for the new cooking equipment.
Officials estimate that the change could save more than Rs 1.23 crore every year.
It is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 250 tonnes annually.
The work should be finished in five months.
Officials hope the project can become a model for other large kitchens in the state.
Andhra Pradesh signed an MoU to establish its first Electric Cooking Demonstration Project at JNTUA.
The project will replace LPG cooking at JNTUA’s Hampi Hostel, which serves nearly 2,000 students daily.
APSECM sanctioned Rs 81.80 lakh for equipment procurement, installation, testing and commissioning during 2026-27.
The electric cooking system is projected to save more than Rs 1.23 crore annually and cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 250 tonnes.
The project is scheduled for completion within five months and may be replicated in other institutional kitchens across the state.
