India's data centre capacity surges four-fold to 1,575 MW
India is building lots of big buildings called data centres, which are like giant libraries that hold computers running the internet, videos and smart programs.
The government said the amount of computer power in these buildings grew very fast, from 375 MW in 2020 to about 1,575 MW today.
That is more than four times bigger than before.
People use more cloud services and artificial intelligence, or AI, which needs a lot of computer power, so the country needs more data centres.
These centres are mostly built by private companies, not by the government, and money comes from Indian and foreign investors.
Many are in big cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, with new ones coming to other states like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
