Bay Depression to Bring Heavy Rain Across Eastern India
A weather system is growing over the Bay of Bengal.
It is expected to move toward the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Several states may receive very heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
Some places could get extremely heavy showers.
Saturated ground may increase the chance of flash floods in some districts.
Other areas, including Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka, may also get rain and thunderstorms.
The sea could become dangerous, so fishermen were told to stay away from affected waters through September 24.
Delhi is expected to remain mostly clear.
Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh are forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Wednesday, September 23.
The Bay of Bengal depression is expected to strengthen and cross the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast from Wednesday night into early Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department warned of isolated extremely heavy rain and a low to moderate flash-flood risk in parts of Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected across parts of eastern, central and southern India, including Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka.
The Bay of Bengal may become rough to very rough, with winds reaching 55–65 kmph and gusting to 75 kmph; fishermen were advised to avoid affected waters through September 24.
