Food Safety Lens Turns To Zomato After Zepto Warehouse Sealed
Zomato under the scanner after Zepto, Food Safety officials visit Bengaluru warehouses: Report · livemint.com

In India, food safety inspectors have a big job: making sure the food we buy is clean and safe to eat.

Recently, they visited a huge warehouse in Bengaluru used by a delivery company called Zepto.

Inside, they found trash, old wrappers, bottles, and dirty floors, and they said the place was "extremely unhygienic" – which means very dirty.

Because of this, they sealed the warehouse, meaning it was closed down, and told the owners they might face a case in court.

The very next day, the inspectors showed up at a warehouse used by another delivery company called Zomato.

There, they found chicken and spices with missing labels, food stored the wrong way, and they took 40 samples to test in a lab.

Other food companies are also being checked, including a Blinkit warehouse in Mumbai whose food license was taken away.

Some big hotels in Bengaluru were also found to have dirty conditions.

The companies like Zepto say they are helping the inspectors and fixing the problems, because everyone agrees that our food should be safe.
