Bengaluru Zepto warehouse sealed over food safety violations
Food safety inspectors are like health police for food, making sure the food we eat is clean and safe.
Recently, they checked a big warehouse in Bengaluru run by Zepto, a company that delivers groceries very quickly.
Inside, they found things that were not good, like trash, dirt and food that was not stored in a clean way.
The labels on some food items were also wrong.
So the inspectors closed the warehouse to keep people safe and gave it a fine.
Zepto said it cooperated with the inspectors and would fix the problems.
The inspectors also closed a kitchen that prepares food for cheap government canteens called Indira Canteen.
This is part of a bigger effort to check hotels, restaurants and food stores across the city.
The goal is to make sure everyone gets safe, clean food.
Karnataka's Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
Inspectors found 'extremely unhygienic' conditions including organic waste, discarded wrappers, accumulated dirt and empty cardboard boxes, plus non-compliant labelling and misbranding.
The warehouse, operated by logistics company Nippon Express, was sealed under FSSAI provisions; a notice was issued and a case was recommended before the adjudicating officer.
The special drive also sealed an Indira Canteen central kitchen at Gottigere, inspected two other canteen units, and collected food samples for laboratory testing.
Zepto said it fully cooperated with authorities and is taking steps to address observations while maintaining high food safety standards.
A ₹25,000 fine was imposed, and the action is part of a wider Bengaluru drive that also included the suspension of a Blinkit facility's licence in Mumbai.
