Mumbai FDA Suspends 10 Licences, Seizes Expired Drinks in Crackdown
Food safety inspectors in Mumbai visited places that store and sell food and drinks.
They found almost 1,000 bottles of fizzy drinks that were too old to be sold.
The drinks belonged to Parle Agro and were kept in a warehouse in Chembur.
The inspectors took the old bottles away because they could make people sick.
They also checked warehouses used by delivery apps that bring groceries to homes.
At one warehouse they found rotten vegetables, cockroaches and dirty floors.
At others, workers were missing gloves, headgear and aprons, and some food packets were kept directly on the floor.
Some warehouses stored chemicals next to food and did not keep cold food at the right temperature.
Because of these problems, inspectors suspended the licences of 10 establishments.
They also ordered 14 other places to fix their problems and started penal action against a cafe in Film City.
The FDA seized nearly 1,000 bottles of expired drinks, including Appy Fizz and Frooti, valued at Rs 99,970, from a Parle Agro warehouse in Chembur.
Licences of 10 establishments linked to online food delivery and quick-commerce operations were suspended, while 14 others received improvement notices.
Blink Commerce facilities in Ghatkopar and Malad West were flagged for cockroach infestation, rotten vegetables, missing medical records and workers without headgear, aprons or gloves.
Zepto facilities in Andheri West, Mulund and Goregaon East failed on chemical segregation, temperature control, waste disposal and personal hygiene.
Instamart facilities had food packets on floors, rat droppings and an expired Jorabian Chicken Curry Cut, while Bollywood Cafe faced penal action under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
