Security forces in Manipur arrested eight people suspected of belonging to banned militant groups.

The arrests happened in several districts during operations carried out by police and other forces.

Officials said the suspects were connected to groups including the PLA, PREPAK, KYKL and KCP.

They are suspected of crimes such as attacks, kidnappings, collecting money by force and recruiting young people.

One arrested man, Thiyam Boycha Singh, was already wanted in a case investigated by the National Investigation Agency.

Officials said he was allegedly involved in a 2021 attack on Assam Rifles personnel and others.

Weapons, ammunition, cash and documents were found during the arrests.

Security forces are also using checkpoints and escorts to protect traffic carrying essential goods along a major highway.
