INS Shruti: Indian Navy's second indigenous offshore patrol vessel launched
India has a new ship for its Navy, and it is called INS Shruti.
The ship was built in India, in the city of Kolkata.
It is very long, about 113 metres, and weighs around 3,000 tonnes.
Shruti's job is to keep the ocean safe.
It can watch the sea, catch pirates, and help people during floods or disasters.
It can also rescue people and protect important things in the ocean, like oil platforms.
The ship can travel very far without stopping for fuel.
India wants to build more of its own ships instead of buying them from other countries.
The ship's name comes from old Indian books called the Vedas.
INS Shruti, the Indian Navy's second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), was launched in Kolkata on August 11, 2026.
The 113-metre vessel displaces about 3,000 tonnes and can reach speeds up to 23 knots with an endurance of about 8,500 nautical miles.
Indigenously designed and built, Shruti was constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), which is building four NGOPVs while GSL constructs the remaining vessels.
Its missions include maritime surveillance, search and rescue, anti-piracy operations, disaster relief, protection of offshore assets and counter-infiltration.
A PIB report said 51 large ships worth approximately Rs 90,000 crore are under construction in Indian shipyards, reflecting India's push for indigenous naval platforms.
