Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Unveils Pinhole Pupilloplasty Centre
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay opened a new eye treatment centre in Chennai.
The centre is at Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital.
It uses a technique called Pinhole Pupilloplasty, or PPP.
The technique makes a very small opening in the colored part of the eye.
This can stop scattered or distorted light from entering the eye.
As a result, some patients may see more clearly.
It may help people with certain cornea problems or problems after eye surgery.
The technique can sometimes improve vision without replacing the cornea.
C Joseph Vijay inaugurated the Pinhole Pupilloplasty Centre at Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Chennai.
The centre focuses on Pinhole Pupilloplasty, a microsurgical technique developed by Dr Amar Agarwal.
The technique is intended for selected patients with corneal scars, irregular corneas and high corneal aberrations.
PPP creates a small, precisely centred pupil instead of replacing the cornea.
The hospital said the initiative complements the 41st national eye donation fortnight and aims to preserve donor tissue.
