Kolkata Roads to Get Makeover Before Durga Puja, Minister Assures
In the city of Kolkata, many roads are broken and full of big holes called potholes.
The holes happened because it rained a lot.
Rainwater got inside the road and made it weak.
Cars and buses kept driving over the weak parts, so the roads broke apart.
The people in charge of the city want to fix the roads.
They promised to repair the worst roads by October 10.
That is just before Durga Puja, a big festival.
The repair work will be done in layers.

Roadwork will be carried out in three layers, with the top bituminous layer laid after the monsoon.
Heavy rains have caused deep potholes and undulations on the EM Bypass, Dum Dum, Garia, Salt Lake, VIP Road and Belghoria Expressway.
A KMDA official said water seeping into lower layers and repeated traffic break down roads, making proper drainage crucial.
