Hunan sets out policies to reuse land and buildings in urban renewal
Hunan province in China has introduced a set of policies to guide urban renewal and make better use of existing land and buildings.
The provincial government has issued 16 policy documents covering areas such as land, planning, property rights, approvals and finance.
They support work including renovating older neighbourhoods, improving villages within cities and building communities with a range of services.
Hunan has identified 501 priority areas for renewal; this year, local governments began work in 133 areas covering 353 projects.
Those projects have a combined planned investment of 262.7 billion yuan, and the province selected 100 for priority support.
New rules also allow some existing commercial or office buildings to change use, subject to planning approval and safety requirements.
Provincial departments say they will guide local governments in applying these rules and in reusing land and buildings.
