Littlefinger’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Quote Captures the Cycle of Ambition
In HBO’s Game of Thrones, Petyr Baelish, known as Littlefinger, is a skilled political manipulator.
In season 3, he tells Sansa Stark, “It doesn’t matter what we want.
Once we get it, then we want something else.”
The line reflects how ambition shifts as characters gain power.
Daenerys begins by wanting a home and a place to belong, then comes to seek the Iron Throne.
Cersei puts her ambitions for power ahead of her relationship with Jaime, but later turns back to him after her son Tommen dies.
Their stories show that getting what they want does not necessarily bring lasting satisfaction.
