US data center boom pushes pay for some electricians as high as $300,000

The United States is building data centers to support growing demand for computing, including artificial intelligence.

These facilities need complex electrical systems to power thousands of servers and keep them cool.

The construction boom has created strong demand for electricians with the right skills, while retirements and a shortage of new workers limit supply.

Some electricians working on data center projects can earn up to $300,000 a year, and pay may be higher when travel is required.

That is an exceptional ceiling, not typical pay: the median US electrician earned $63,190 a year in May 2025.

In Colorado, estimates put data center construction pay at $100,000 to $150,000, compared with $68,000 to $72,000 for similar work on other building projects.

The high wages reflect how urgently data center builders need skilled workers as construction continues.
