İzmir education inspector jailed over alleged 300,000-lira bribe

An education inspector in İzmir was arrested over an alleged bribe after a school principal reported him.

The principal, who runs an Anatolian high school in Bayındır, was under an administrative investigation into the school’s income and financial dealings.

The inspector allegedly said he could help close the case with a favorable report, and first asked for 500,000 lira, later reduced to 300,000.

The principal alerted officials, and police prepared an operation at a cafe in Bayraklı, where the money was handed over in an ordinary-looking fig box.

Police arrested the inspector at the handover, and a court ordered him held in custody after questioning.

The case against the inspector is continuing, while the school’s financial investigation remains unresolved and may be reviewed separately.
