Average time for divorce cases in Turkey fell to 163 days in 2025

Turkey’s justice minister said divorce cases are being heard faster, with the average time falling to 163 days in 2025.

The average was 199 days in 2020, according to figures he shared at a family counselling workshop in Ankara.

Authorities recorded 309,479 new divorce cases in 2025, down from 326,069 in 2024; 242,722 had been filed by October 8, 2026.

The minister said divorce can affect children’s safety, daily lives and wellbeing, especially when parents are in serious conflict.

The government wants to expand family and parenting counselling to help parents communicate and focus on their children’s needs during divorce proceedings.

Counselling is intended to support court processes, not replace judges or steer families toward a particular decision.

Officials hope the support will reduce conflict and later disputes, including difficulties carrying out court decisions.
