Uludağ plans take effect, with a focus on year-round tourism
New conservation and development plans for part of Uludağ have taken effect after their public review period ended.
The plans were prepared by the Uludağ Area Directorate, established in 2023 under Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
They aim to make the area covered by the directorate’s authority a tourism destination that can serve visitors in all four seasons while protecting its natural and cultural features.
The plans provide for about four kilometres of safe walking paths, more controlled parking and public recreation and cultural areas.
They also reduce and reorganise accommodation areas; two former hotel sites have been assigned for cultural use, and another is being converted into a public recreation area.
The directorate says it will remove structures that pose safety risks after the required assessments and legal procedures.
It says the plans do not cover or involve changes to the national park area.
Uludağ’s 1/5000 and 1/1000 conservation-focused zoning plans have come into force after their public display period ended.
The plans aim to make Uludağ a tourism destination that operates year-round and fits its natural landscape.
They provide for a nearly 4-kilometre pedestrian route, cultural and recreation areas, and about 19.25 hectares of outdoor sports space.
The plans also reorganize parking and reduce and rearrange accommodation areas.
Uludağ Area President Candemir Zoroğlu said the work will be limited to areas under the authority’s responsibility and will not involve the national park.
