Eleven Edge Early Learning centres to close after no buyers emerge

Eleven Edge Early Learning centres will close after administrators could not find buyers for them.

The closures affect seven centres in Queensland, three in South Australia and one in the ACT.

Administrators found buyers for 53 other centres in Queensland and South Australia, including 31 set to be taken over by Goodstart Early Learning.

Edge entered voluntary administration in August after facing financial pressure, including rent difficulties.

Families and staff now need to find alternatives, and some parents were given as little as 48 hours’ notice.

Administrators say they are advising families about nearby centres with places available and will help staff seek other work.

The closures highlight the financial pressures facing childcare operators, which include rent and staffing costs.

The 53 proposed transfers still need to proceed through the relevant sale and approval processes.
