China aims for skilled workers to make up 35% of its workforce by 2030
China’s human resources ministry has set new workforce training goals for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which runs to 2030.
It aims for skilled workers to make up 35% of people in employment by 2030.
The plan targets subsidised vocational training for 50 million people and new skills certificates for 40 million, including 14 million advanced-level certificates.
China also plans to update more than 200 national occupational standards and develop courses for new jobs.
The measures are part of a wider effort to prepare workers for changes such as the growing use of artificial intelligence.
The ministry said urban employment remained stable, with 10.52 million new urban jobs created in the first nine months of the year.
It also plans to expand employment support for young people and improve training and job services.
China aims to raise skilled workers to 35% of employed people by 2030.
The target was announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security at a State Council Information Office press conference on October 10.
The plan also aims to provide 50 million subsidised vocational training places and add 40 million people with skills certificates during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
Of those new certificates, 14 million are intended to be at senior-worker level or above.
The ministry also plans to revise or develop more than 200 national occupational standards.
