Poll puts Le Pen and Mélenchon in French presidential run-off

Poll puts Le Pen and Mélenchon in French presidential run-off

A poll in France found far-right leader Marine Le Pen and hard-left candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon would reach the presidential election run-off in all five scenarios tested.

Le Pen was projected to win 35% to 37% of first-round votes, up from 33% to 36% in a similar poll the previous month.

Mélenchon was projected to make the run-off in each scenario, although he has never reached the second round in his three previous presidential campaigns.

Le Pen also ran in 2012, 2017 and 2022, reaching the run-off in the last two elections but losing to President Emmanuel Macron.

The poll suggested Le Pen would beat Mélenchon comfortably in a run-off.

The findings point to stronger support for candidates on the far right and hard left as Macron’s final term ends.

The poll was conducted from October 5 to 8, and the sources do not say when the next election will take place.
