France plans lower diesel prices and priority supplies for rural stations

France plans to release strategic fuel stocks to bring down diesel prices, which are currently high.

Small, isolated service stations in rural areas are a focus because local drivers may have fewer cheaper alternatives.

The government expects the move to cut diesel prices by 12 to 18 cents per litre, with the reduction due by November.

About 350 rural stations have been identified for special attention and are to receive fuel as a priority.

Officials plan to track the fuel to check that it reaches those stations and that prices fall sooner.

Serge Papin, the minister for small businesses, commerce and purchasing power, also supports keeping the daily meal-voucher limit at 25 euros and allowing vouchers to be used on Sundays.

A meeting with fuel distributors is expected to clarify the timing and details of the stock release.
