Raphaël Glucksmann wins social-democratic primary with more than 66% of the vote
Raphaël Glucksmann won the social-democratic primary for France’s presidential election on Sunday, taking more than 66% of the vote.
He is the candidate of Place publique, a political party, and will also stand as the Socialist Party’s candidate.
More than 120,000 people voted in the primary, which followed three debates and a campaign lasting just over five weeks.
Socialist Party secretary-general Pierre Jouvet called the result a clear victory and said the party should focus on the presidential campaign.
Olivier Faure, who finished second, will remain the party’s first secretary.
Jouvet said the campaign would seek to offer an alternative to Marine Le Pen and address problems facing the country, including fuel and energy crises.
The campaign’s next steps are to develop those proposals in the coming weeks.
