Antonelli takes Singapore podium despite Mercedes brake problems

Kimi Antonelli finished third in the Singapore Grand Prix, behind Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.

The Mercedes driver said he nearly hit a wall when his brakes failed to slow the car properly after a restart.

A brake sensor fault was found before the race, and Mercedes ran the car without brake data.

Heat and driving behind another car also made the brakes difficult to manage.

Antonelli said he adapted by slowing down earlier and putting less pressure on the brake pedal.

He also said Mercedes’ new upgrade package has potential but works well in only a narrow range of conditions, especially on a track with many slow corners.

The team’s next chance to develop the package is in Austin.

What people are saying

Because especially on the restart of the VSC, when I went to brake, nothing happened. I had really poor stopping, brake power and I almost went into the wall.

Plus, we also had the sensor issue on the brakes, so we didn't even have the data about the brakes.

The window is just too small of where the car operates at this moment.
