Researchers develop water-based binder to simplify lithium-ion battery recycling
A binder is a glue that holds parts of a battery electrode together.
Researchers made one that uses water in production and dissolves when used electrodes are soaked in water.
This could reduce the harsh chemicals, heat and energy needed to make and recycle batteries.
Lab tests found that cells using the binder performed comparably to conventional ones at first.
