Eni cuts recommended diesel price to €2.19 per litre
Eni has lowered the recommended price of diesel at its stations in Italy by two cents, from €2.21 to €2.19 per litre.
The new price matches the level Eni first announced on September 25.
Its official cap remains €2.25 per litre.
The cap was raised after a planned tax cut on fuel excise duties had not taken effect, leaving out a 6.1-cent-per-litre reduction.
The government has not yet applied that mechanism, which was meant to ease the impact of rising fuel prices.
Eni says it wants to keep prices at a sustainable level, and a fuel-industry association said the price limits can help families and businesses.
The sources give no date for when the government may apply the tax cut.
