Grant Forrest wins Spanish Open and earns first Masters invitation
Grant Forrest, a 33-year-old golfer from Scotland, won the Spanish Open in Madrid by one shot on Sunday.
He finished 14 under par, with a birdie on the final hole securing the victory over France’s Victor Perez.
The win earns Forrest his first invitation to the Masters, held at Augusta National in the United States.
He had come close to a major route to Augusta before, finishing runner-up in the 2015 British Amateur.
Forrest also qualified for the Open Championship, which he has played twice.
The Spanish Open is one of the national opens whose winners are invited to the Masters.
This was Forrest’s third European tour victory, after a difficult year in which he had missed the cut in eight of his previous nine tournaments.

Eugenio Chacarra and Perez tied for second, while Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen finished fourth.
