Capitals beat Rangers 3-1 after Shesterkin leaves with injury

The Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers 3-1 on Friday night in Washington.

Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin was injured midway through the second period.

He came out of his crease to challenge a shooter, then fell while scrambling back toward the net.

His skate caught on the post, and he collapsed into the net.

Shesterkin held his right knee and was helped off the ice without putting weight on his right leg.

He missed a month of last season with a lower-body injury, during a season when the Rangers fell short of the playoffs.

No further details about his injury or return were given.
