Construction begins on new Trabzon airport built on reclaimed sea land

The new airport will be built on land reclaimed from the sea beside Trabzon’s existing airport.

Workers have begun drilling the seabed and preparing to add about 97 million tonnes of fill.

The project includes a runway and a large terminal, and is expected to take about seven years.

It is planned to handle up to 10 million passengers each year.
