Photographer captures animals and their people at UK country shows
Photographer Irina Werning spent the summer photographing animals and their people at county and agricultural shows across the UK.
The shows were in Essex, Kent, Surrey, Gloucestershire and Buckinghamshire.
Werning grew up in rural Argentina surrounded by animals and began this project there.
She has photographed agricultural fairs in Argentina and the UK for four years.
She chose the shows because animals are becoming less visible in the countryside, while the fairs remain places where people gather to see and celebrate them.
Her photographs explore how people’s relationships with animals are changing.
She also looks for moments when people and animals seem to mirror each other.
The project continues her work in both countries.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
As animals become less visible in the countryside, I’ve turned to agricultural shows – places where people still gather to see and celebrate them.
I see them as a kind of Darwinian theatre, looking for moments when humans and animals unexpectedly mirror each other
