Andrew Garfield Draws Oscar Buzz for ‘Artificial’ After London Premiere

Andrew Garfield stars as OpenAI chief Sam Altman in ‘Artificial,’ a film about the five days in 2023 when Altman was fired and then rehired.

The film also features Yura Borisov as OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who ousted Altman.

After the film’s premiere at the New York Film Festival, critics praised it and Garfield and Borisov entered the awards conversation.

At its London premiere, Garfield said he felt proud of the film but had no control over what happened next.

He said the story felt timely because it follows people shaping artificial intelligence, a technology that is being used across industries.

Amazon MGM Studios dropped the film in June, and Neon later took it on for distribution and began an awards campaign.

‘Artificial’ is due in theaters in December.
