Comuns invites Gabriel Rufián to join a broad political front
Gerardo Pisarello, a spokesperson for Comuns, has invited Gabriel Rufián to join a broad political front being developed with other parties.
Rufián is the spokesperson for ERC in Spain’s Congress.
Pisarello said the two have spoken and share views, but that it would be legitimate for Rufián to run as ERC’s candidate.
If he does, Comuns says it will look for other ways to work with ERC and parties including Bildu and the BNG.
The proposed front aims to bring together forces from across Spain and, Pisarello said, go further than the policies of the PSOE.
Former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau has also invited Rufián to join, and several political groups have proposed that she lead the front.
Comuns says it will keep working towards an agreement until the deadline to register, but no final arrangement has been announced.
Comuns spokesperson Gerardo Pisarello invited Gabriel Rufián to join a proposed broad alliance, the Frente Amplio.
Pisarello said the invitation was open if Rufián saw value in a project with forces from across Spain.
He said Rufián could instead become ERC’s candidate, a choice Pisarello described as legitimate.
Pisarello said Comuns had spoken with Rufián and was open to working with ERC, Bildu and BNG.
He said the alliance should be broad and able to go beyond the policies of the PSOE.

If he is thinking that it makes sense to be part of a broad front with forces from across Spain, we believe it is important that he say so, that he put it forward, and, given that for many people in the rest of Spain he is a highly regarded name, we invite him to take this step
